Message: Bringing “love to Cabo San Lucas

Today Pastors Doug and Leslie Love shared their experiences of mission work in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In 2008, they were called to pack up, leave their adult kids and 5 grandchildren in Washington state for Cabo. It was needless to stay a leap of faith. But God had plans for them.

It was right around the time when the US economy was in a tailspin, which meant that fewer Americans were visiting the beaches of Cabo. Given that Cabo relies upon tourism, the resorts were laying off people left and right. At one point, the unemployment rate was at a horrific 80%!

Doug and Leslie settled in with Cabo Church and spent the majority of their time establishing kitchens which provided meals for families in the Barrio, which was a poverty stricken neighborhood a few miles outside of town.

Sadly, for many of the families these meals were all that they had. The kitchens were truly a savior for this small community. And as it turns out, hotdogs from Costco were surprisingly popular!

Through their mission work in Cabo, Doug and Leslie were part of a movement that brought hope, nourishment, and peace to a troubled city. They helped build 7 kitchens that served more than 3,000 meals per month and provided 21 families with food each week. God called them to a place that was entirely foreign to them, but through His grace were able to serve a community in desperate need of Love.

Recently, the Mexican Foursquare church Centro de Fe has encountered a troubled season where one of their pastors have left causing dissention and financial hardships. We will be collecting offerings next week (November 20th, 2011) to help the Centro de Fe community.
